Police warn realtors, homeowners to have security plans for open house sessions
By Record staff
KITCHENER — Police warn people selling their house to talk with their realtor about a security plan for open house sessions.
The move is prompted by a man acting suspiciously during an open house on Nov. 17 in Kitchener, said Olaf Heinzel, spokesperson for Waterloo Regional Police.
An unknown man entered a house for sale on Frankfurt Street. While the real estate agent talked to other potential buyers, the man went to the second floor.
After an extended period of time, the man left on a bicycle without talking to the agent.
The agent was concerned about the man's actions and called police, even though nothing was missing.
The white man identified himself as "Chris" to the agent initially, police say. He was five-feet eight-inches tall, in his 30s, with short brown hair and glasses.
Police want to talk to the man to find out what he was doing at the house, Heinzel said.
"We want people to be on the lookout for suspicious activity" and call police immediately, he said
