Terry Fox Run 简介

Terry Fox，加拿大男孩，1977年18岁的他因为骨癌右腿被迫从膝以下截去。为了能够引起人们对癌症治疗的关心，1980年他决定用一条腿和假肢通过长跑募捐。他的目标是每个加拿大人捐出1元钱。他从纽芬兰省加拿大最东端开始，计划跑回远在温哥华的家乡，他每天跑满一个马拉松距离的42公里，坚持跑了143天，共跑了5373公里。最后癌症复发转移到肺部而终于倒在未跑完的路上。此时他已经跑到了安省的 Thunder Bay。这次长跑共募集到2千4百万元。实现了他的愿望。Terry死于次年六月，去世时年仅22岁。加拿大政府在国会正对面为他树了一座铜像。此后，加拿大和美国人每年都在9月份举行Terry Fox Run纪念他，同时为癌症治疗募捐。一直坚持至今。

25 years ago this was the starting line for Canada's Terry Fox, the shallows of Atlantic at St Johns, New Foundland. From there he would head west into rural provinces, throught the streets of Toronto, across countless canyons, and finish near his home in Vancouver where the Sun sets at the Pacific.

If I don't make it, no one will make it. Maybe I won't make it but it's up to me and I think I will do it.

Terry Fox was 18 years old from British Columbia when he was diagnosed with bone cancer in his right knee. Amputation and chemotherapy left him with an artificial leg and memories of those still in the cancer ward.

There're kids at my age or younger, and you can't just erase those and try to forget about it, and I couldn't anyway I will try to do something about it.

And so he did. Terry trained on his new leg for 14 months, then told his family that he would run East to West across Canada, hoping to raise 1 million dollars for the cancer research.

I said why can't you just run across British Columbia and he said becaue not only the people in BC would get cancer, well I couldn't argue with that.

On April 12, 1980, at the east-most point of Canada, he beganm the Marathon of Hope, and Terry would do it by running 26 months, a marathon, every, single, day.
