2018.08.18 - Waterloo Chinese Festival Day

The Region of Waterloo is very proud of its diverse communities. For the first time in its history, a “Chinese Festival Day” will be held at Waterloo Town Square on August 18, 2018 to share the unique and vibrant Chinese culture experiences with members from all communities. This festival will be an event to promote wellness living through engaging all of its visitors to participate in visual and performing arts, craft lessons, hands-on cooking, fun games and more.



Supported by the City of Waterloo and United Way Waterloo Region Communities through the City of Waterloo Neighbourhood Matching Fund, this historic event is organized by WCCA (Waterloo Region Chinese Community Association). WCCA is an Ontario-registered non-profit organization with missions to connect and enhance the contributions of the Chinese Canadian community to the larger society.
After receiving funding for the festival, since the Fall of 2017, WCCA and its board of directors have been working tirelessly on the planning and preparation for the event. Many committees are established to collaborate this huge program. They are:

• -      Planning committee: led by WCCA executive directors
• -      Directing committee: led by Ying Guo and Dayan Ban
• -      Performance committee: led by Yan Li
• -      Food committee: led by Xiao Ting
• -      Sponsorship committee: led by Hao Sun
• -      Culture Exhibition committee: led by Hong Huang
• -      Volunteer committee: led by Dayan Ban and Lan Mo
• -      Visual design committee: led by Xia Zhang
• -      Venue committee: led by Changbao Wu
• -      Logistic committee: led by Yehe Huang
• -      Marketing committee: led by Shaowu Guo, Lynn, Tianhua Zhang, Dave Chen and Jerry Zhang
• -      Finance committee: led by Jixia and Yue Ha
  

With less than fifty days left, these committees are working very hard to make sure the “Chinese Festival Day” will be a tremendous success. Currently Ms. Huang from logistic committee are leading many students from WCCA youth group in making 188 pieces of beautiful lanterns. Other projects such as banners, flags, “flower gate”, “imagine wall” etc are all undergoing various stages and on track for the schedule.

So, come and join us August 18thfrom 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Waterloo Town Square. There will be parade, delicious food, live music, dance shows, prized games and much more. People from all backgrounds and ages are wholeheartedly welcomed. Let’s celebrate together the diversity of our great community and great nation!
