With the funding from the Red Cross during the COVID-19 epidemic, the Waterloo Region Chinese Canadian Association (WCCA) held a brief appreciation event for volunteers during the epidemic.

Because of the epidemic, the event was divided into two parts,

once on August 19, and once on August 29.

The event was held in WATERLOO PARK. Everyone strictly abided the rules of outdoor activities. We all wore masks and maintained social distance.

On August 19, the sky was high and the weather was very good. There were 23 people participating in the activity. These volunteers are all members of WCCA.

WCCA prepared snacks, drinks and PPE packages for the volunteers, including masks, hand sanitizer, and the newly published Waterloo Region Chinese Canadian Association magazine.

Volunteer Zhang Xia signed in. Since the outbreak of the epidemic, he has been purchasing daily necessities for the local 90-year-old elders 21 times, until August 28th. This kind of love and dedication is very worthy of our admiration!

Due to the epidemic, everyone basically has no social activities. We haven't seen each other for half a year. It was a rare opportunity to meet with old friends. Everyone was very happy.

People chatted and shared life and work experience during the epidemic.

Dr. Wang Qi also used the lunch break to participate in this event to make a speech on the current epidemic situation in Waterloo, presenting the common practice and epidemic prevention knowledge, and how to deal with this pandemic in different situations.

Dr. Wang patiently answered various questions about COVID-19 from the volunteers. Through this event, we eliminated the panic and understood how to properly take protective measures to better protect ourselves.

On August 29th, the second event. The weather is not so good, cloudy and light rain, 20 volunteers came to Waterloo Park on time to participate in the event.

Doctor Huang Hailing, Psychologist, explained the importance of mental health during the epidemic from her professional point of view, and showed some cases. She said that the spirit of mutual help and friendship of others is especially valuable, and she is very impressed of the good atmosphere of our community

Under the leadership of WCCA Chairman Hu Zhen and the event organizer Huo Jixia, the two events were successfully held. WCCA thanks all the volunteers for their dedication.
