The city announced at around 10:15 p.m. that it was locking out transit workers starting at 12:01 a.m. Monday after the union representing the drivers and staff met to vote on a tentative agreement reached a week ago.
A private contractor will provide mobility services for pre-booked medical services only, the city said in a release.
In a somewhat surprising move, Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1190, which represents Guelph Transit's 205 unionized employees, voted "overwhelmingly" to turn down the deal, which council had endorsed on Monday.
